Privacy & cookies

Information we use and why

Visits and service security

Our server records the IP address, visit time, requested path, request method, response status, and response size. We use these short-lived records to secure, operate, diagnose, and understand demand for the service. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in running a reliable and secure website.

Accounts and authentication

If you register, we process your email address, protected authentication credentials, verification and recovery records, and session information. We use these to provide and protect the account you request. Our lawful bases are performance of our agreement with you and our legitimate security interests.

Portfolios and preferences

We store the portfolio names, holdings, and display preferences that you choose to save. We use them to provide your private account features. Our lawful basis is performance of our agreement with you.

Messages to us

If you contact us, we use your address and message to reply, resolve the enquiry, and keep an appropriate record. Our lawful bases are our legitimate interests and, where relevant, legal obligations.

Cookies, local storage, and advertising

ratio/fox uses strictly necessary browser storage for account security and may use local storage for preferences and safe migration of earlier browser-only portfolio data. These functions are needed to provide features you request.

When advertising is enabled, Google AdSense and Google’s certified consent platform may process information such as your IP address, browser or device details, consent choices, and interactions with advertisements. Non-essential advertising cookies or similar storage are not permitted before the consent required by applicable law. Eligible visitors can accept, reject, or manage these purposes in the Google consent message and later change their choice through the privacy options it provides.

We do not use a browser analytics tracker. Our private traffic dashboard is built on the RatioFox server, and the local country lookup does not send visitor records to an analytics provider.

Service providers and transfers

We use service providers only where needed to operate ratio/fox: Hetzner for hosting, Brevo for account-related email, and Google for AdSense and consent management. These providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where required, we rely on applicable adequacy arrangements or contractual safeguards.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it or where necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. We do not sell personal information.

How long we keep information

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law gives you rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to processing of your information, and to receive or transfer information you provided. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw that consent without affecting earlier lawful processing.

To exercise a right, email privacy@ratiofox.com. We may need to verify your identity. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.

Other important information

ratio/fox is not directed to children. We do not use personal information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. We may update this notice when the service or legal requirements change; the date above identifies the current version.
